Rook was our longest living hamster. He died at the ripe old age
of 2 years 8 months. I cuddled him in my hands as he drew his last breath. Rook
was extremely sweet and will always remain one of our favorite hamsters. For this
reason, he was chosen to be the proud father of Queen's
babies. One of their children, which we kept, was named Bishop.
We chose to keep her, because she resembled her wonderful father.
As with our first hamster, Pawn, Rook
was allowed to roam around the house freely (after Pawn died). He enjoyed his
freedom for a year or two, but then decided not to return home, but to live under
the refrigerator. So after we captured him, he had to stay in his cage, except
when supervised. He adjusted to this change well and was still a very happy hamster.
